Menace
>> In the early 80s Andrew started playing guitar for the 'Sarf London Soul' band, The Collection. In 1997 The Collection supported Mark Perry's ATV at Chats Palace and decided to play Menace's GLC. One of the crowd told Andrew that The Collection had great taste in punk songs and that wthey had made a reasonable fist of 'GLC'. Andrew sent the drunk towards Noel, the drummer, to reminisce. The drunk interrupted his trip down memory Lane when he noticed that Noel looked familar. Eventually, the penny dropped; he was Menace's drummer. And, Charlie Casey, The Collection's bass player, was Menace's bass player.
A few months later Andrew, Noel, Charlie and John Lacey (the Collection's front man) were on stage at the Holidays in the Sun punk festival in Morecambe as Menace, reformed (at least on one sense). Morgan Webster could not front the band because he had, sadly, died in Canada, his home. Steve Tannett could not play the guitar because he had successful career as a producer for IRS records. The crowd for the 'reformed' Menace was a little larger than at Chats Palace, around 2,000.
New Labour won the election and new Menace was born.
Andrew will write a short history of Menace in the near future. More information on the band can be found at www.menace77.co.uk.
